Reconstruction of the Green Market in Aleksinac supported by the European Union

Aleksinac green market reconstruction will be funded by the European Union, through the EU PRO development programme, with 149,581 Euros allocated to build the roof, rehabilitate the market’s sanitary facilities and purchase around 150 new stalls for vendors.

After finalising the preparatory works, which included moving the flea market, clearing the area and preparing footings for loadbearing columns, currently works are underway on the construction of the metal roof structure.

“With the support of the European Union and the Government of Serbia, Aleksinac will have a modern market with increased capacities and improved conditions for vendors and buyers of agricultural and craft products. Also, the number of open days will increase, which will enable more regular supply of the population, but also provide the opportunity for producers and vendors to increase their income,” Nenad Stanković, Mayor of Aleksinac, said on his visit to the construction site. He added that Aleksinac Municipality was co-funding the project with 20 percent of the total value of works, or 41,038 Euros.

Aleksinac is the first local self-government among 37 cities and municipalities implementing local infrastructure projects with the European Union support through the EU PRO programme, to start the project, creating the conditions for a new look of the green market this spring.

The special focus will be on activities related to the application of good governance principles, implemented in partnership with the Swiss PRO programme, supported by the Swiss Government. Namely, Aleksinac Municipality and Public Utility Company will adopt rulebooks to regulate the operations of the green market, including the rental and use of vendor stalls at the market.

The contractor is a consortium of companies MBN Construction from Nozrina and Utva Silos from Kovin, selected in the public procurement procedure implemented by the Municipality of Aleksinac.

The reconstruction of the green market in Aleksinac is funded by the European Union in partnership with the Government of the Republic of Serbia, through the EU PRO Programme. Complementary activities related to the application of good governance principles are implemented in cooperation with the Swiss PRO Programme supported by the Swiss Government.
