More than five million Euros for public infrastructure

Within the European Union (EU) support to the improvement of infrastructure in two regions - Šumadija and Western Serbia and Southern and Eastern Serbia, there is ongoing Public Call for Proposals for Local Infrastructure Projects, for which the EU has allocated 5.2 million Euros. The call is open until 29 June 2018, and the 99 local self-governments[1] involved in the implementation of EU PRO programme. The Programme is financed through the IPA Programme for 2016, and implemented by the United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS) in partnership with Serbian Government, primarily with the Ministry of European Integration.

While underling the importance of this programme, the Minister of European Integration Jadranka Joksimović said that "The process of European integration is not an end in itself, but a mechanism for the overall internal development of our country. In this regard, it is of utmost importance that local self- governments recognise this opportunity to strengthen their capacities in order to use more European funds in the future. Therefore, I invite the cities and municipalities to take advantage of all the possibilities provided by the EU PRO programme and apply with projects that will contribute to sustainable regional development and improve the quality of health, social and communal services enjoyed by our citizens ".

The local self-governments can apply with the projects contributing to a better life of the population, such as reconstruction and construction of educational, health and social welfare institutions, as well as projects aimed at improving the living conditions of the vulnerable groups, in particular the Roma community, through the improvement of existing social and communal infrastructure. The sumbitted projects can also refer to improvement of environmental protection, e.g. solid waste management, wastewater treatment, or energy efficiency improvement.

EU PRO will organise the informative sesions about the Call requirements and application procedure for all interested local-self governments in the period from 8 to 18 May 2018 in Šabac, Užice, Kragujevac, Kraljevo, Smederevo, Zaječar, Leskovac and Niš.

More information about the Call for Proposals and all the application documents are available on:  EU PRO_Public Calls.
